Software Development Engineer

Seattle WA USA

At Amazon, I worked in the Alexa Smart Properties organization, which builds enterprise-grade Alexa experiences for hospitality, senior living, and healthcare customers. Unlike consumer Alexa, this domain requires high reliability, security, and large-scale operational readiness, as customers deploy devices across hundreds or thousands of locations.

Problem Space and Context

Enterprise customers faced significant friction when adopting Alexa-enabled devices at scale. Device readiness for new hardware launches often lagged behind consumer availability, onboarding required manual and costly setup processes, and customers struggled with operational complexity when deploying devices through third-party installers or partners. These challenges directly impacted activation, time-to-value, and long-term adoption.

My Role and Responsibilities

Although my title was Software Development Engineer, my day-to-day work sat at the intersection of engineering, product execution, and customer problem solving. I collaborated closely with Product Managers, Launch Program Managers, Device teams, and senior stakeholders to translate customer pain points into scalable platform capabilities.

I owned enterprise device readiness across multiple Echo device form factors, worked on multimodal screen experiences, and contributed to enterprise APIs that enabled content delivery, onboarding, and secure device management. I frequently operated in ambiguous problem spaces where requirements were evolving and success depended on cross-team alignment rather than isolated execution.

Key Initiatives and Outcomes

  • Enterprise Device Readiness and Launch Strategy
Through customer feedback and internal retrospectives, we identified that enterprise support for new Echo devices was consistently delayed, sometimes by more than a year after consumer launch. This created a major adoption blocker for large customers.

I helped design and implement a repeatable launch-readiness process that aligned device software, enterprise features, and validation workflows earlier in the development cycle. This reduced enterprise time-to-market for new devices by approximately 75 percent and enabled day-one support for future Echo launches.

  • Role Management and Zero-Touch Device Setup
Customer surveys and field feedback revealed that device setup could take months for large properties due to reliance on expensive, manual installers. The underlying issue was not technical capability but lack of delegated access models.

I worked on building enterprise-grade role management APIs that allowed customers to securely grant scoped, time-bound permissions to third-party installers or Amazon associates. This enabled devices to be pre-configured before delivery or installation, unlocking near zero-touch setup at scale. The result was faster onboarding, lower operational cost, and reduced friction for large deployments.

  • Multimodal Experiences and Platform Expansion
I contributed to expanding multimodal screen experiences on Echo devices, supporting enterprise use cases through APIs and content workflows. This work improved customer satisfaction and broadened the range of supported enterprise scenarios across hospitality and senior living environments.

Overall, my time at Amazon shaped how I think about product development in complex systems: starting from customer constraints, identifying systemic blockers, designing for scale, and delivering outcomes through cross-functional execution.

2019 - 2020

Software Engineer

Bengaluru KA India

At Wipro, I worked on large-scale banking data migration initiatives, helping enterprise customers transition legacy systems to modern cloud-based analytics platforms.

Problem Space

Financial institutions operated fragmented legacy data systems that made analytics slow, unreliable, and difficult to scale. Migration efforts were high risk due to regulatory constraints, data integrity requirements, and operational complexity.

My Contributions

I worked on designing and implementing ETL pipelines that integrated legacy banking systems into Palantir’s data platform. This involved handling data normalization, validation, and reliability concerns in a highly regulated environment.

Beyond implementation, I collaborated with stakeholders to identify bottlenecks in existing workflows, streamline deployment processes, and improve system performance and reliability. This experience strengthened my appreciation for data quality, operational rigor, and stakeholder alignment in enterprise environments.

2018 & 2019

Engineering Intern

Bengaluru KA India

At Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), I worked on projects related to satellite onboard computing and power management, gaining early exposure to mission-critical systems.

Key Projects

  • Floating-Point Arithmetic Computation Co-Processor
I developed a co-processor to reduce computational load and latency in satellite onboard computer systems. The project focused on performance optimization under strict hardware constraints and was awarded Best Project at Open House 2019 for technical rigor and execution.

  • Power System Emulator
I designed and built a power system emulator to regulate charge and discharge states for satellite subsystems. This work involved low-level systems thinking, simulation, and validation to ensure reliability under varying operational conditions.

This experience laid the foundation for my interest in building reliable, high-impact systems and shaped my early technical discipline.

Education
